Critique
of Member's work
Members are requested to bring in one or
two paintings to be critiqued by Jen. Your paintings do not
have to be framed. Watermedia artists, please bring your painting
in a mat. Oil and Acrylic painters, please make sure your paintings
are COMPLETELY DRY. In order to avoid transferring paint to
clothing and other artwork, any work that is even slightly damp
will not be accepted for the critique.
Jen Norton is a graduate of Santa Clara University
with a degree in Fine Art (1987). She is a board member of the
Santa Clara Valley Watercolor Society (SCVWS) and has served
on the steering committee for Silicon Valley Open Studios. She
is an accomplished illustrator, creating unique art for clients
such as The San Jose Junior League, Hay House Publishing and
Kensington/BET Books in New York. She also teaches painting
design classes through the Los Gatos/Saratoga Recreation Dept.

the February Meeting
|
Jaya King did a very entertaining demonstration with gouache
on gessoed board using the lift-off technique.

for the meeting.

There will be no Artist of the Month event at the March meeting
due to the painting change.

Painting
change date at Quinlan - March 10, 2008
|
Please
arrive early by 6:30 PM to collect your old paintings and register
your new ones. There is no storage at Quinlan so please arrange
to have your paintings picked up if you cannot do so yourself.

"From
the Heart" - FALC Show at the Main Street Cafe, Los Altos

We had 42 paintings at the Main Street Café
in Los Altos for the month of February titled, "From the Heart".
The reception on Feb 7th was attended by about 75 members and
guests. Winners at the show were chosen by popular vote. First
place went to Carrie Zeidman, second place to Janki Chokshi and
third place to Joy Kuo. Congratulations! Congratulations also
to Yao Pi Hsu for the sale of her photograph titled "Profound
Memory".
We would like to thank the members who helped
with the show, Rajiv Khilnani, Swati Savale, Nina Uppaluru, Iona
Ezaki, Laurie Creveling, Joanne Kim, Janki Chokshi, and a special
thank you to Belinda Lima who organized the show. Carrie Zeidman
did a wonderful job with the graphics.
FALC and the show have received some wonderful
publicity in the Cupertino Courier, the Sunnyvale Sun and the
Mercury News during Valentines week. Eight FALC members were selected
to be interviewed in the article. The photographs below were taken
at the reception on February 7th.

Volunteer Brunch on April 5, 2008

The
FALC board will be hosting the Annual FALC Volunteer Appreciation
brunch on April 5th from 11 AM to 2 PM at Nina Uppaluru's home.
We will be in contact with the volunteers by email soon. The volunteers
consist of the Board, the Steering Committee, and Official Chair
positions such as Membership, Publicity, Refreshments, the Greeters,
Graphics, etc. This is just another way to show how much we appreciate
you giving your time and energy to FALC. |
Triton
Museum - Mid-Summer Art Celebration / June 21, 2008 / Register

The AVArtfest event in June has been
cancelled but the Triton will now have a 1-day event on Saturday
June 21 called the Mid-Summer Art Celebration. Only 7 or 8 Bay
Area clubs have been invited to show as a group and FALC is
one of them. We will also be taking registrations for this at
the March meeting. As in AVA, the panels will be provided by
FALC. There is no charge to participate but the Triton will
take a 30% commission on sales. All participants will be required
to volunteer at the event.

Profile
of the Month
|
Each month we bring you the profile of one
of our members who have generously contributed their time and
effort for the club. Jane Hofstetter is past president of FALC
and has done many critiques and demos for our club over the
years. She has an astounding list of accomplishments and we
are certainly proud to have her as a member. She has won several
national awards and has enjoyed being the juror for many national
art shows. Most recently she has won awars in the San Diego
International Annual Show and the Texas Watercolor Society Annual
2007 Show. She has been painting and teaching for almost 30
years after studying art at UC Berkeley and the Chouinard Art
Instutute at LA. She is an elected and signature member of the
National Watercolor Society, Watercolor West, The Transparent
Watercolor Society of America and several other national societies.
She is listed in the "World's Whos Who of Women" and
the 2008 "Who's Who of America". She recently had
a 50 painting retrospective exhibit at the Triton Museum of
Art and her work is represented by Christopher Queen Galleries
in Northern California. Jane has been featured in International
Artist Magazine, Creative Computer Tools for Artists (published
by Watson Guptil Books 2001), Splash 2 and Splash 7 (published
by North Light Books 2002), The Collected best of Watercolor
(Rockport Books 2002), Watercolor Magic, Top Award Winners 2003/May
issue.
Jane's book "Seven Keys to Great Painting"
published by North Light Book Club (www.NorthLightBookClub.com
Book #32746-3 Jan 2005) has remained on the bestseller list
for Northlight Books for 2 years.
In 2008 Jane will be leading a group to paint
in the Dordogne River area in France - May 28 to June 9th. Call
Jane if you are interested in joining the group. There are a

have paintings in the Pacific Art League juried show "Rose
and Rouge". The show will be up for February.
Touch My Heart Art Benefit
Feb 2008, at the Los Gatos Opera House. Congratulations to Belinda
Lima for winning 3rd place at the show! There were 274 miniature
artworks by local Bay Area artists that were presented to those
who made a $100 donation to the Los Gatos Museum.

a commitment to set-up the refreshments and coffee, find volunteers
to bring snacks, and remind (before each meeting) the volunteers
to bring something, clear the table after the meetings.

Panel
Rental: We need 2 people
to take over the Panel Rental. You would store at least 12
3ft x 6ft panels and be the contact person when someone wanted
to rent them. As an incentive, we will offer $200 a year for
one person to store 24 panels or $100 each to two people storing
12 panels each. You can use the panels rent-free for your
own events during the year and will automatically be first
in line for them for events like SVOS.
