while submitting their painting for Painting change.
All members must sign a waiver
form before they can exhibit their work at the
Quinlan Center. Quinlan will not exhibit the work of any artist
who has not signed a waiver. Waiver is good for one year of
exhibiting at Quinlan.
Please remember to sign the members sign
in sheet at all meetings. Also participate by voting for the
Artist of the Month and any potential members that may be
jurying in that month.

To participate in FALC
sponsored shows and exhibits, one must be juried in as a exhibiting
member. Artists who have submitted 3 pieces of original art
which meet with the approval and acceptance of the voting
members will be awarded "Exhibiting Membership". Jurying
in will take place at most meetings.
Membership for continuing
members is $45.00 per year, January through December.
$45 - full year membership
$25 - half year membership
(Half year membership
is only for those who will be jurying in after June 2017)

The freedom, spontaneity
and speed – the “wet and loose”- of watercolor suits my temperament.
My approach is “juicy” incorporating bright colors, broad
strokes, and strong shapes to depict my feelings and impressions
of the natural landscape, flowers and trees, buildings, foreign
lands and exotic places.
Kay's recent, more
experimental work utilizes an original technique of texturing
oriental papers with watercolor pigments. These papers are
torn, arranged and collaged to create interesting abstract
images. Metallic foil, pastel and opaque media are also utilized
to enhance the image.
Kay has been painting
for over 45 years and has studied locally with Jane Hofstetter,
Charlotte Britton, Jane Burnham and Marie MacDonnell Roberts.
Always endeavoring to learn and grow, she has painted in workshops
with nationally know artists such as Brommer, Nechis, Szabo,
Betts, Simandle, Webb, Cheng Khee Chee and many others. An
active member of the Allied Artists West, Santa Clara Valley
Watercolor Society, Los Gatos Art Association, Saratoga Contemporary
Artists, The National League of American Pen Women and a signature
member of the Society of Western Artists, Kay shows regularly
with these groups throughout the Bay Area. The City of Saratoga
honored this local artist by presenting one of her paintings
to Saratoga’s Sister City of Muko-shi in Japan. In 2005 the
County of Santa Clara purchased a local vineyard painting
to present to their Sister County of Florence, Italy.

Please join us for our most enjoyable yearly event! It has been
a FALC tradition for several years to come together and paint
Holiday posters which will be donated to the Pleasant View Convalescent
home in Cupertino. If you are shy about painting with a group,
please join us anyway. We would appreciate the opportunity to
talk and get to know one another.
Please join us in celebrating
the Holidays! Bring your watercolor or quick drying acrylic
paint, brushes and palette. No oil paints. Paper will be provided.
You could choose to paint a simple secular holiday picture of
your choice. We have designs that you can pick from to paint.
Theme required : 6 Posters on Christmas theme and rest on Spring
or general Holiday theme.
Optional: Please bring
a small wrapped gift (approx. $10) for the patients at the Convalescent
Home who may not have relatives visiting them during the holidays.
Please mark if it is for a male or female. No liquids, lotions
or perishable goods please. Suggested gifts are gloves, scarves,
socks etc.
Optional: Please bring
a snack or food to share at the pot-luck.

With the beginning of the new year all FALC board positions
are open for new nominations. We would like to ask that each
FALC member give some thought to how they can be more involved
with our club for 2018. You can nominate yourself or any other
FALC member for any position listed below. All nominations will
be voted on at the January Meeting. The club has many talented
members with many skills that are urgently needed to run the
group. A club is only as good as its members and if everyone
takes turns at running the group we can achieve great results.
Please ask yourself what you can do to contribute. We
will do everything we can to make your involvement a positive
experience and you will have plenty of guidance to help you
get started. You may consider sharing a job with a friend. We

Book Description: Ghosts - Images
of War uses uniquely designed images of the past and present
combined to take you on a haunted ride through history. By
expertly superimposing and digitally manipulating historical
images of the past with photos of the present, Ghosts connects
the spirit and people of history to the present day world.
Almost as if you’ve traveled to the past, or the past has
been transported to the present, the images evoke nostalgia,
sadness, reflection, and hope. Battles and monuments included
range from Valley Forge to the Beaches of Normandy. After
visiting concentration camps in Poland in 2008, viewing monuments
and ruins filled with tragedy and despair, author Carrie Zeidman
came home with unrelenting visions of the people who once
occupied these spaces and whose lives were cut short. Searching
out authentic photos from the Holocaust and combining them
with images from her personal travels, she realized she could
mesh the old and the new, contrasting the heartbreaking past
with a hopeful present to create these unique images.
About the Author: Carrie Zeidman
is a digital artist and photographer whose passions are photography,
art, travel, and history, all of which are found in Ghosts.
She is a tenth generation Californian and a fourteenth generation
American. Many years of researching her extensive family history,
traveling to historic battle grounds, and creating her unique
art all come together in her first book. Her paintings start
with a mood, an emotion, or a memory of some kind. Using color
and figure, she finds a way to transfer that mood, emotion,
or memory onto the two-dimensional surface of the painting.
When finished, a successful piece is able to evoke the original
feeling in the viewer. Carrie has won several awards for her
work, including being named Cupertino Distinguished Artist
of the Year in 2012. Her work has been represented in galleries,
and her painting Freedom Rises in the East is in the permanent
collection of the Mauermuseum at Checkpoint Charlie in Berlin,
Germany. She lives in Cupertino, California with her husband
Bob, who is also an author of several books. She lives on
a mountain top that affords her a different breathtaking view
of the sunrise over the Santa Clara Valley every morning,
providing endless artistic inspiration.
En Plein-Air: A Retrospective of Watercolors

and surrounding landscapes as well as a retrospective of her
earlier work from her travels in France and a nostalgic look
at the Mendocino coast in the 1970’s. This collection highlights
the evolution of Carol’s exceptional style and her mastery
of traditional plein-aire techniques, as well as the ever

CWA presents “Go Figure” an art show

The City of Campbell “Art Outside the Box”:
is a public art beautification program designed to transform
common traffic control utility boxes in Campbell, into distinctive
works of art, creating a more vibrant, attractive cityscape.
The program also celebrates local artists and their artwork,
acts as a deterrent to graffiti, and involves Campbell residents
in contributing to the beautification of the city. CALL TO
ARTISTS The City and Civic Improvement Commission are seeking
local artists to showcase their work by painting up to eight
(8) utility boxes located throughout Campbell. Painting will
take place between May and July 2017, after completion of a
competitive selection process. Artists 18 and older, and are
residents of Santa Clara County are welcome to apply. Honoraria

60th Annual Saratoga Fine Art Show : The
Saratoga Rotary Art Show is the premier fine art and contemporary
craft show held in the heart of the Silicon Valley. The Saratoga
Rotary Club will celebrate the 60th anniversary by returning
the artist location to the grass area. After two years of renovation,
West Valley College has reopened the grass plaza for artist
spaces. This is a great opportunity to join over 150 fine artists
in one of the largest juried art shows in the Southbay and showcase
your work to the Saratoga, Los Gatos, Mountain View,and Cupertino

Rental
|
Panels are available for rent all year at $5/weekend
for members and $7/weekend for non-members. There will be
a $25 charge for checks returned due to insufficient funds.

payment plus a $100 refundable deposit are due when panels
are picked up.

FALC
Guidelines - Criteria for Jurying-in new members
|
FALC has been fortunate this year to welcome
many new members and we can look forward to many others being
interested in joining our club. One of the questions that
we get asked the most from current members and those who are
interested in joining is about our criteria for acceptance.
Our process is clear and simple. Anyone who wants to join
needs to bring three pieces of art to one of our meetings.
The members present at that meeting will vote, and if a 2/3
majority of people approve, that person will be accepted,
pay their dues, and become an exhibiting member.
As a juried club, FALC strives to maintain a
certain standard of proficiency since organizations that invite
us to exhibit assume a certain selectivity. One rule of thumb
commonly used when voting in new members is to ask yourself
this question - Would I like to exhibit with this work? Would
this new work add to the reputation of the club? Just as we
support each other by bringing our best work to shows and
by providing new, fresh work for the painting changes at Quinlan,
we can use our Artists' eyes to make decisions about what
work will be hanging beside us at the next show.
Voting "no" during the jurying-in process does
not bar an artist from joining the club. The artist can still
be a member, just not an "exhibiting member". Non-exhibiting
members can attend demos and meetings that provide an environment
for their art to grow. As they continue to develop their skills,
they are welcome to jury in at a later date.

FALC
Guidelines - Copyrighted material
|
|
The laws regarding copyrighted
material are complex and not uniform from state to state. In
order to avoid liability and the burden of determining whether
a particular image involves copyright infringement, FALC has
created the following guidelines for member artists. FALC assumes
that it is the respoinsibility of the artist to honestly follow
these guidelines and assumes no liability for work that is submitted
or displayed not following these guidelines. It reserves the
right to disqualify a painting if there is reasonable doubt
about copyright infringement or plagiarism.
- Work entered for a show must be the
artist's original work in concept and execution.
- It cannot be copied from copyrighted
material or photographs belonging to another person or organizaion
except with the copyright holder's explicit written permission.
- It cannot be the reproduction of
a painting done by another person even if the original artist
is acknowledged on the painting.
- It cannot be the reproduction of
a historic painting.
